With Ratings in BG Stats you will be able to rate games, as well as filter and sort on your own ratings.

If you have Collection sync enabled your rating will automatically be synced with BGG as well.

Enabling Ratings

You can read all about how to enable Ratings here: Enabling Personal Ratings.

Displaying your rating

Your personal rating has a different display style than the BoardGameGeek (BGG) average rating, so you can easily tell them apart:

This is your personal rating.

This is the average BGG rating.

You can see your rating for a game in multiple places:

  • On a Game’s overview screen, in the second section of the top pager.
  • In the Quick collection popup, available by tapping the collection status below the game’s thumbnail, on the Game overview screen.
  • On the View collection / Edit collection screen
  • On the Game Copy screen.
  • In the games list (See Games list below), if you have enabled this in the List View Settings.

Games list
The ratings can only be seen in the Expanded View. Tap the gear menu and select “List View Settings“. Tap the “Expanded View” button to switch to the Expanded View, if applicable.

In the List View Settings, tap the dropdown next to Rating.

You can choose one of the following options:

  • None: display no rating in the list.
  • Mine: display only your own ratings in the list.
  • BGG: display on BGG’s average rating in the list.
  • Both: display both your own and BGG’s average rating in the list.

This menu also has a toggle option:

  • Allow changing rating: if enabled, personal ratings can be changed directly on the games list.

Setting your rating

You can set ratings in multiple places:

  • On a Game’s overview screen, in the second section of the top pager.
  • On the View collection / Edit collection screen.
  • On the Game Copy screen.
  • In the list of games, if enabled. See Games list above.

This icon indicates you haven’t set a rating yet. Tap it to set a rating.

This icon shows your existing rating for a game.
You can see by the small dropdown-arrow that you can change this rating. Tap the icon to do so.

Tapping these icons will display a popup with a rating slider. Set your rating by tapping the numbers or dragging the slider. Tap anywhere outside the popup to Save and close the popup.

To remove a rating, drag the slider all the way down to below the 1. This will clear your rating.

Tap the rating number at the top to get a dialog to input your rating with the keyboard. This way, you can set a rating with a precision up to 5 decimals.

Gear popup menu

By tapping the gear icon at the bottom-right of the rating popup, you get the following options:

  • Reset the rating to what is was before you opened the popup (“current”), or one of the previously saved ratings for this game.
  • Set the precision by which you can set the rating with the slider, to 0.1, 0.5 or 1.0 per step.

Sorting and Filtering

Sorting

You can sort the games list on “My rating“.

Android: Tap the drop down menu at the top of the page (under the header).
iOS: Tap the three dots in the multi-segment button at the top of the page (under the header).

Then select My Rating *.

Filtering

In the Custom Filter it is possible to filter on your own Rating. This is available in the Rating & Rank filter.

My Rating

There are three available options:

  • Range (default: “Any”): Select a minimum and maximum Rating. The chosen range is displayed as the left option. Games that fall in the selected range will be shown. Tap the “x” on the top right to clear this filter.
  • Rated: Only games that have a personal rating will be shown.
  • Unrated: Only games that don’t have a personal rating will be shown.

Standard filters

Ratings adds a new standard filter to the top dropdown on the Games screen:

  • Played, not Rated: shows all games that you have played, but not set a personal rating for.

Syncing with BoardGameGeek (BGG)

If you have Collection sync with BoardGameGeek turned on, your ratings will sync automatically with those on BGG. Any ratings you change on BGG will also update to your app.

The fine details

On BGG you can have multiple copies of a game in your collection. This is reflected in BG Stats by the different Game Copies of the game. Each ‘collection item’ on BGG is a separate Game Copy in BG Stats. You can see the list of game copies when you edit the collection for a game, or open the Quick collection popup from the game’s overview screen.

Just like on BGG you can set a different rating on each Game copy in BG Stats as well. Usually you would do this on just one copy though. The rating of the first rated copy in the list is used as your overall personal rating for that game (just like on BGG).

Advanced settings

By default, if you add a rating on BGG to a game you don’t have in BG Stats yet, the game will be added to BG Stats. This also happens if you add any other collection information to a game on BGG, like a comment, or private info.

If you don’t want those games to appear in BG Stats, enable the following setting:
Settings –> BoardGameGeek –> Collection sync settings –>”Limit adding Games to the app”.

Games will then only be added to BG Stats if the game has a Collection Status (like Owned, Wishlist, etc.).
So if you only add a rating or comment on BGG the game will not automatically be added to BG Stats.
If later on you do give a game a collection status on BGG, it will appear in the app at that point, including that rating and/or comment.
Of course you can add the game manually to BG Stats, and the rating and comment will be kept in sync and will appear in the app.

Disable the Limit adding Games to the app if you do want all games with any collection status to appear in the app. Then, to import any missing games due to this setting, tap the “Check for changes…” button to update your collection in the app.
